Here at Valley Community Counseling Center, a low cost clinic in North Hollywood, we believe in love. We work from the premise that most couples who originally loved each other can be helped to rebuild their relationship if they are willing to put in the time and effort. What could be more important than your primary relationship? If you have children, it is even more important to give love a chance.

How do we work? We believe that marital troubles don’t occur in a vacuum. Each of you bring childhood history to a relationship and when a relationship goes bad, it is often caused by an unconscious baby that resides in each of us that is needing attention. We silently wish and demand that our partner give us what we didn’t get as children. When they can’t, we rage and fight, just like the frustrated little person we once were when we were small. When two people are fighting in therapy, we see two unhappy children underneath the fray. Our work at the clinic is to help people discover their needs, know themselves and their partners from a deeper perspective, so that the love once shared can emerge again.

This is what we mean when we say we work from the bottom up. We understand the importance of teaching communication techniques and tools to improve day-to-day relations. That’s part of the process.
